Dr. Fengzhi He - Researcher
Fengzhi He

My research interests include freshwater ecology, biogeography, and conservation biology. I received my MSc degree from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and finished my PhD at Free University of Berlin and Queen Mary University of London. My PhD thesis focuses on diversity and risk patterns of freshwater megafauna. In the MegaCon project, I will continue to explore ecological functions of freshwater megafauna and their potential in functioning as flagship/umbrella species. In addition to freshwater megafauna, I am also interested in macroinvertebrate communities in streams and their response to environmental change.

Dr. Simone Langhans - Researcher
Dr. Simone Langhans

Dr. Simone Langhans is a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Dr. Sonja Jähnig at the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries in Berlin, Germany. Simone was trained as a freshwater ecologist by ETH Zürich and Eawag in Switzerland and has additional experience in river rehabilitation, decision support theory and conservation planning. In her research she combines these topics to investigate alternative ways of solving complex environmental decision problems with a focus on freshwater management.

Titel of work: Cultural values in freshwater management: learning from Maori for European applications

Dr. Sami Domisch - Researcher
Dr. Sami Domisch
Dr. Sami Domisch is a postdoctoral researcher in the working group of Dr. Sonja Jähnig in the EU-project AQUACROSS. Sami is interested in freshwater biogeography, with an emphasis on assessing the current status of freshwater biodiversity, as well as under potential environmental change scenarios on different spatial scales. He has a strong background in species distribution modeling, and is interested how these tools can be further developed within the freshwater realm for management and decision making.

Xing Chen - PhD student
Martin Friedrichs

I am a PhD student in the working group of Dr. Sonja Jähnig. I get my master degree from Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in June 2019. The goal of my PhD thesis is to help us to understand the species invasion impact on freshwater megafauna and explore how freshwater megafauna species were introduced to non-native ranges and its relationship to species trait. Meanwhile, I focus on predicting future distributions of nonindigenous freshwater megafauna under future scenarios (such as climate change).

Title of work: Freshwater megafauna in a changing world: a nonindigenous-species perspective
